2025 is now but a memory, and for many of you out there, now’s the time to start thinking about how you’re going to spend 2026. If your heart’s set on travelling or simply exploring the world beyond your comfort zone, there are tons of exciting things to explore just a plane ride or boat trip away. However, if you’re a sports fan, there are even more reasons to start exploring the planet this next year.
And, it’s a great opportunity to grab an eSIM or two to make sure that your data usage is completely covered regardless of where you travel. More on that a little later on.
For now, however, let’s dive into a few of the big global sporting events that are set to unfold over the next 12 months, so you can book your travel, accommodation, and stadium seats (as well as narrow down the eSIMs you need to keep yourself connected when you go).
Winter
Yes, winter’s going to keep on rolling for a few weeks yet, but that won’t slow down the world’s brightest sporting talent. Over the next two months, you can check out the best of the tennis best at the Australian Open, or take a trip to Italy to sample the highlights of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games (followed by the Paralympic Games, taking us into March).
Over in the US, as always, we’ll be seeing the Super Bowl take place in early February - and, while we don’t know who’s in contention at the time of writing, it’s likely to be a big, brassy affair with half-time entertainment straight out of the Hot 100.
Rugby fans should also keep their eyes peeled for the Men’s Six Nations, which kick off from February 5th and tie up on 14th March.
Spring
We’re back down under in Australia for the start of the F1 season in March, bookended nicely with the Suzuka Grand Prix in Japan towards the end of the month. If you prefer your sporting pace to be a bit more leisurely, it’s worth holding out for the Augusta Masters at the start of April, where golf’s pros will be teeing off over the course of a week in Georgia State.
There’s more racing abound with Grand Prixes in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami, and Montreal, but if you prefer horse racing, be sure to check out the Kentucky Derby at the start of May. Football fans, meanwhile, might want to plan trips to Budapest for the Champions League final at the end of the month.
Women’s sport highlights this spring, meanwhile, include the Women’s Six Nations, taking place between April and May.
But wait! We haven’t forgotten about cricket fans! The Men’s T20 World Cup unfolds between February and March over in India and Sri Lanka this year.
Summer
Summer tends to be an enormous season for sporting action, and thankfully, 2026 is shaping up to be no different to any other year. F1 fans can, again, jet across to Monaco, Spain, Austria, the UK, Belgium, Hungary, and the Netherlands this summer - but let’s take our eyes off the tracks for a moment or two.
Hockey’s Stanley Cup comes to an end in early June, with NHL fans flocking to Miami as summer kicks into gear. Golf fanatics can, again, watch more star-studded fairway action over in New York for the US Open, and for tennis fans, June is all about Wimbledon - so get booking flights to London and grab some strawberries and cream.
That all being said, this summer is going to be all the more special thanks to the Soccer World Cup, this time around being held in the US, Canada, and Mexico. It’ll take place between the 11th and 19th July.
The women’s T20 World Cup, meanwhile, takes place in England between June and July, so if you’re a fan of cricket and soccer, you might want to check out both tournaments in person.
That’s all capped off by some blistering track and field action in August, with Glasgow hosting the Commonwealth Games, and Birmingham (UK) presenting the European Championships.
Fall
Fall, Autumn, however you refer to it - is a huge season for rugby, too. The Rugby League World Cup sees split hosts Australia and Papua New Guinea this time around, with all the scrums and tries taking place from mid-October to mid-November.
For F1 fans, there’s a second trip to Spain, followed by races in Azerbaijan, Singapore, the US, Mexico, Brazil, and Qatar (with the season finishing off in Abu Dhabi at the start of December).
Meanwhile, golf’s Presidents Cup will loom into view in Chicago this September. Golf’s women will tee off in September, too, in this year’s Solheim Cup, over in the Netherlands. Horse racing fans will also want to head down under for the Melbourne Cup.
As you can see, there’s tons going on all over the world when it comes to big-name sports action. However, to make the most of any sporting trip you make abroad in 2026, it’s always worth taking up an eSIM.
